			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Pilates is a great way to get in shape and strengthen your core muscles, yet many people don&rsquo;t really know what it is all about.  If you are looking for a way to strengthen your midsection better than the usual <a href="http://www.betterabworkout.com/" target='_blank'>abdominal exercises</a> and increase flexibility and strength, stay with me and see what this great form of exercise is all about.  I will start off by telling you about the original equipment then the newly redisigned way of doing of this 100 year old exercise.</p>
<p>Pilates was developed in the early 1900&rsquo;s by Joseph Pilates by combining aerobics and yoga principles.  He called his system of exercise contrology and wrote a couple books about it.  Now, his exercises are grouped into a system of exercise that is usually called pilates.</p>
<p>A machine called a pilates reformer is usually used to do exercises.  There is a sliding carriage within a rigid frame.  There are straps and handles which you pull on to move the carriage.  Springs and your body weight provide the resistance you need to get a good workout.  While sitting, kneeling, or laying on the carriage, you do your exercises.</p>
<p>Pilates reformers are very useful, but they do take up a lot of floor space and can be cumbersome to put away.  The reformer may fold up, but even then there is a piece or equipment that is at least 3 feet long and a couple feet wide that you need to worry about.  Fortunately, there is a pilates machine for those of us who don&rsquo;t have a lot of floor space.</p>
<p>A new piece of equipment, called the Malibu Pilates machine, is becoming very popular for people wanting to try out this great form of core exercise.  You can get a really good pilates based workout with this machine and then fold it up and store it under your bed or in the closet.  The exercises are a little different than using a reformer, but you still get a great core workout.  This combination is making the Malibu Pilates machine a popular piece of exercise equipment everywhere and why I recommend <a href="http://www.betterabworkout.com/exercise-equipment/malibu-pilates-machine" target='_blank'>Malibu Pilates</a>.</p>
<p>Regardless of what machine you prefer, I highly recommend you check out pilates to strengthen your mid section, increase flexibility, and build a stronger leaner body.
